“I began to look about and write down the elements with their atomic weights and typical properties, analogous elements and like atomic weights on separate cards,” said Mendeleev in 1905, the man who is credited with conjuring up the first periodic table. Based on a tabular template of atomic numbers, electron amounts and chemical properties, the periodic table of elements contains every known ingredient to organic life.
